Here it is, the 10-station bike sharing program is off and running. $40 a year. You'll recall that we did the build on these bikes, and they are really quite nice.

I can't wait! We were in Paris this winter and were impressed with the bike sharing program there.
I hope that road rules will be part of the DC bike sharing program. For example, we already have far too many law breakers who ride their bikes on the sidewalks of DC. Where did these people grow up?? Have they no respect for 1) the law; 2)pedestrians and 3) themselves? If folks don't have the skills or the guts to ride properly on the street, then they should not be riding bikes at all (they might consider tricycles) or -- better yet -- just move to the suburbs. Otherwise, buck it up and follow the rules!
Good point, anon. Especially around the 'golden triangle', where there's lots of people, and riding on sidewalks is strictly barred.
The bike itself is a bit odd looking, but if maintained in good working order, riding around at a decent speed in traffic shouldn't be a problem. They really very hi-quality bikes.
Also, perusing the user agreement, it's silent on sidewalk riding, and encourages (but does not require) helmet use. I'll be curious to see how many people will actually bring along and use a helmet.
